A child like Jessica

Jessica playing pianoUntil recently, thirteen-year-old Jessica was a pupil at a school in London, where a special unit for the visually impaired has been set up. AMBER has been so impressed by this school, and the way they care for each child, that they have funded Abi, a music teacher, to give piano lessons to several of their blind and partially sighted children.

For the past three years, Jessica, who is a happy, lively child, has loved her lessons with Abi, who is blind herself – she has especially enjoyed playing duets. It has been a delight to watch her musical development, her soaring self-confidence and the pleasure music so obviously gives her.

Jessica has now left the school and moved on to New College Worcester, a residential school for blind and partially sighted children, where she will continue her music. Before she left, her school in London took her away for a weekend to help her prepare for her big move to Worcester. This is an indication of the thought and consideration they have given to make sure Jessica’s transition to her new life is as easy as it can be. Jessica is blossoming at her new school and has made many new friends.
