Why donate?

Any donation, large or small, will a huge difference to the lives
of the musically gifted blind or partially sighted children, we support,
such as Grace (below).

A child like Grace

Grace isGrace 11 years old, registered blind,
has low muscle tone and the two halves
of her brain are not joined together properly.
However, she is not only full of joy, she is
also exceptionally talented and bright.

Grace has perfect pitch and, as well as singing,
she composes songs with remarkable lyrics,
plays the drums and keyboard. She is able to play two tunes at the same
time on her keyboard - one with her left hand, the other with her right.
The Braille music tuition that The AMBER Trust has been able to offer
her has enabled her to come joint-first in a Braille music competition.
There is no doubt that she is a star in the making and with AMBER’s
help she has a better, brighter future. Music is Grace’s life.

Grace’s mother Clair says:
“I don’t think Grace would be as cheery and as determined without
her music. I don’t think anybody can understand that when you have
a visual impairment how important it is to have something that you
are good at and that other people can appreciate. The fact that AMBER
helps us means Grace can be integrated into things she normally
wouldn’t be able to do and she can use a skill that makes her more
socially accepted.”

LEAVING A LEGACY TO THE AMBER TRUST

Samuel

Legacies and bequests will be used to provide funding through The AMBER Music Awards. Funding can be restricted for blind and visually impaired children from specific geographical areas or for specific purposes, such as instruments or music lessons.

You can support The AMBER Trust with either a specific or residuary legacy. Legacies to charities are free from both Inheritance Tax and Capital Gains Tax so they can reduce the total liability on your estate. The AMBER Trust can be included as a beneficiary in your will either by making a new will or by adding a codicil. It is advisable to take professional advice on this. Some model wordings for the various types of bequest follow.

I give the following charitable legacy absolutely:-

A residuary legacy

I devise and bequeath [a percentage] of the residue of my estate absolutely to The AMBER Trust (Registered Charity No. 1050503) of 19 Scarsdale Villas, London, W8 6PT, hereinafter called the charity, such sum to be applied for the general purposes of the Charity and with full power to expend capital as well as income for such purposes and I direct that receipt of The AMBER Trust’s authorised officer for the time being shall be good and sufficient discharge to my executors for the payment to the charity.

A codicil adding a bequest to an existing will
I [your name] of [your address] declare this to be the first [or second etc] codicil to my will dated and made the [date] of [month and year].

In addition to the legacies given by my said will I give the following further charitable legacy absolutely:-

to The AMBER Trust (Registered Charity No. 1050503) of 19 Scarsdale Villas, London, W8 6PT, hereinafter call the charity, the sum of £… for the general purposes of the charity and with full power to expend capital as well as income for such purposes and I direct that receipt of The AMBER Trust’s authorised officer for the time being shall be good and sufficient discharge to my executors for the payment to the charity.

In all other respects I confirm my said will.

The codicil needs to be separately signed, dated and witnessed by two independent witnesses in its own right, as for a will.

AMBER Tribute fund

You can set up a Tribute Fund in honour of a friend or loved one, which
will give you and others the opportunity to make in-memoriam donations
to The AMBER Music Awards. This special way of honouring those you
love will also enable visually impaired children to access the music that
can change their lives forever.

Norman's legacy of love

Tirion

Norman loved music. He had singing
lessons throughout his life and his
  family and friends remember his
  beautiful tenor voice.

However, it is not just the voice they
  remember, but his total enthusiasm
for music – whether attending his
  singing lessons, performing in concerts
or just listening, he had a great love of
classical music. Norman knew he was
never too old to learn and was still taking
singing lessons at the age of 82, which
he thoroughly enjoyed. In fact, he was
due to take part in an end of term concert
  on the day he died.

Norman's family have chosen to support
AMBER in his memory in order to give
others, such as Tirion (left), the chance
to enjoy music as he did.
