The AMBER Music Awards are grants that help pay for music lessons, music therapy sessions, the purchase of musical instruments, software and other equipment, concert tickets and travel related to musical activities. These enable blind and partially sighted children – including those with additional disabilities – to access and enjoy music, thereby making a significant difference to their lives.
A child like Eleanor
For the past year, The AMBER Trust has supported Eleanor and her brother, Joseph, who both have a rare eye condition, called Achromatopsia. This means that they cannot see colours, things seem blurry, and bright light is painful. But ten-year-old Eleanor’s world is completely immersed in music. She has an amazing musical ear and since finding music, her self-confidence has soared. Eleanor enjoys nothing more than to perform in front of an audience. The AMBER Music Awards enable her to attend the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, which includes piano, clarinet and singing lessons. She is making great progress. One of her teachers says, “Eleanor is an absolute pleasure to teach - a positive, enthusiastic and interested student with clear potential”. Eleanor’s father says that she 'comes alive' in the atmosphere of the College. How the Awards have helped The AMBER Music Awards have allowed Eleanor and her brother Joseph to access specialist music lessons and develop their passion and talent. Money donated to AMBER helps to pay for Eleanor’s lessons and instruments. Through The AMBER Music Awards, children like her are given grants to continue their passion for music so that they can reach their full potential. “I cannot fully express my gratitude to The AMBER Trust for making it possible for my children to pursue their musical ambitions. It has truly changed their lives. Thanks to the Trust, Eleanor and Joseph now receive first-class tuition, and have a clear purpose and road ahead. Thank you again.” Eleanor and Joseph’s father, Gareth |
