LloydLloyd is 16 years old and has both visual and hearing impairments. From a very early age, it was apparent that he had a gift for music. As a young baby, he could be heard humming nursery rhymes with great accuracy. At the age of six, he started to play the keyboard displaying real flair and natural ability. He now plays the saxophone, piano and clarinet with the skill of a mature musician.

How AMBER helped Lloyd
Lloyd’s aptitude to compose his own music was not discovered until he was given Sibelius software through The AMBER Music Awards programme. He has since performed his own solo compositions at various concerts. Lloyd’s activities have inspired interest from the Royal College of Music, where he has been invited to present his compositions.

“Before Lloyd had access to Sibelius composition software,

he was composing work by hand on manuscript.

Through The AMBER Trust he was able to change

the way he approached his composition work overnight.”

Lloyd’s father, Robert

In 2006, Lloyd took up the place he was offered at the prestigious Chetham’s School of Music. Even though he taught himself all he knows about music, he has already reached A level standard and has composed a full orchestral score.

Last year, Lloyd won the Young Musician of Wales competition and is determined to make a career in music. He uses his musical ability to inspire and help others and has raised thousands of pounds for charities by giving concerts for friends and family. In March 2006, Lloyd was recognised with the Bridgend Mayor’s Award for Citizenship for all the good work he has done in using his musical talent to help others.

“The AMBER Trust has helped me greatly improve
my musical abilities to progress closer and closer
towards my ultimate goal – to be a professional
musician/composer.” Lloyd
