Jamie is a blind young man who attended St Vincent’s School, a Specialist School for Sensory Impairment and Other Needs in Liverpool, between 9th June 2010 and 27th June 2014.
As is the case with many blind children, music is very important to Jamie, becoming a real focus for him from a very young age. Music is many things to Jamie; a source of comfort, an outlet for emotions, a space for enjoyment and a point of interest. Jamie’s full engagement with music opened up many opportunities for him. Significantly, it has provided a means for him to establish friendships. He was recently invited to play for the Lord Mayor of Liverpool at a civic function: a personal accolade for Jamie, but also an opportunity for him to generate a wider awareness of visual impairment among his peers.
With the wonderful support of The Amber Trust, Jamie is now a gifted musician achieving high grades in piano, keyboard and singing. Indeed, we can report that the financial support of the Amber Trust from 2005 onwards played a major role in helping Jamie achieve his dream, that of a university placement studying music. It gives us great pleasure to announce that Jamie is now at Liverpool Hope University studying at their creative campus.
